The style of dance covered in the Freestyle classes is an amalgamation of genres including Disco Dance, Street Dance, Break Dance, Hip Hop and Lyrical Hip Hop. All performed to the music currently in the charts or playing on the music channels today. Think "Music Video Backing Dancer" and you will get the idea of the type of routines we do.

Freestyle Friday - is so called because the students who take these classes are entered in for IDTA freestyle examinations. IDTA or International Dance Teachers Association is a Worldwide organisation and only teachers qualified with the IDTA are able to enter students in for these particular examinations.

All students involved in the Stage 84 Freestyle Dance Programme will be entered for IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) examinations. These examinations help develop technical skills as well as building confidence in performance. At Stage 84 we also feel that examination work helps to give recognition for the students’ hard work and improvement throughout their training. The IDTA is a highly respected international board whose dance qualifications are an asset for anyone wanting to embark on a career in performance. Each student will perform a number of dance routines in front of an IDTA examiner who will grade the performance on rhythmic interpretation, presentation, technical ability, use of foot work and arms. The grades then add up to a final mark.

Class Times
Classes run on a Friday evening at the Old Fire Station, Idle and are organised as follows (all ages):
Juniors - Ages 5-11, 5.30pm - 6.30pm
Seniors - Ages 11-18, 6.30pm - 7.30pm

Uniform
Comfortable dance wear - jogging bottoms and t-shirt preferable. Dance sneakers / trainers.
Wearing of jewellery is discouraged. Hair should be tied back.
Leg-warmers for girls and knee pads are optional extras.
For examinations, a specific outfit may be required.

Freestyle Dance offers aspiring young dancers the chance to be trained by an experienced professional choreographer, learn new styles of dance and develop their confidence in performance work. Each student will develop their own moves and dance sequences. All students have the opportunity to be represented by the School for potential work in professional television, film, radio and theatre productions.
